LIGHTNING MCQUINN BACK ON THE PODIUM AT IMOLA

Just 2 weeks after a pole position and podium in Monza, Otterham racing driver, Alex Quinn (19) was keen to keep the momentum up as Round 2 of the 2020 Formula Renault Championship headed to the infamous 3-mile circuit of Imola in Italy.

Formula Renault has uncovered some of the greatest racing drivers of the modern Formula 1 era from Alain Prost, Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris. It has just been announced that Formula 1 is to make a return to Imola after a long absence later this year, but this weekend, it was the turn of the young and talented Formula Renault squad of international drivers to take to the circuit.

Once again, Quinn was undertaking substitution duties for Covid- restricted Arden Motorsport driver, Jackson Walls. Friday practice produced solid results preparing Quinn for a strong qualifying result ahead of the opening race of the weekend.

On a circuit where overtaking is notoriously difficult, Quinn put in a strong and consistent performance taking 5th across the line with the race being neutralised and ending under the safety car. Alex Quinn – "I wanted more from this race, but I’ll take the points and focus on qualifying tomorrow as we’ve seen from this race, it’s important to be high up on the grid" Sunday started with a highly impressive performance in qualifying meaning Quinn would start from the second row of the grid. Moving swiftly into 3rd place off the start line, Alex was in pursuit of the 2 leading drivers. After a long race of attrition, Alex defended well in the closing stages to score his second podium of the season crossing the line in 3rd place to add more silverware to his impressive collection. Alex Quinn – "I wanted to push hard to get a good result…. Unfortunately, the tyres degraded at the end…. However, I am pleased to see that our work has enabled us to progress through the week until we reached the podium. I hope this result will give me the opportunity to strengthen sponsorship partnerships to allow me to continue with the Championship." The Championship moves on to Germany at the start of September where Jackson Walls hopes to return to his seat in the Arden team.
